Super powers! Which one would you have if you could chose any one? Just one you know...….
Well good grief, there are soooooo many to chose from. The first thing you need to do is understand that your super power should be used for the good of mankind. We'll have none of that sneaky secret naughty super power! It should enhance you, and be for the benefit of all people.
Okay so that means invisibility is out then! Yeah, because you all know that you would use it to spy on some one you lusted after, or someone you wanted to catch out doing something you were suspicious about, or even listen in on your bosses conversations. It's also a bit creepy, isn't it? Mind you I suppose you could use it to listen in on people that were up to no good. But who get's to decide who is up to no good? They may think they are doing something good. It all comes down to ethics, and who would be strong enough not to use it just to sneak around and find out something maybe you shouldn't know? Nope, too tempting.
What about telepathy? That's probably out too, because you would have to be so careful not to use it to find out if that rather nice man down the road fancies you, or the lovely girl on the bus thinks you're hot. You could also use it to find out what people think of you. I always think it's better not to know, and anyway you always know full well if someone doesn't like you by the way they walk in the opposite direction if they see you! This could be a really depressing superpower to have?
So, superhuman strength? Yes useful if you are trying to open one of those totally unopenable jars of jam, but not so useful otherwise. Everyone would avoid you in a fight which is great, but then everyone may avoid you if you accidentally take the car door off as you open it. Nope not for me.
Time travel? Yes this one appeals to me but only because I am researching my family history. Imagine being able to go back in time and see your ancestors in real life. But then again what if you changed something? What if you caused a paradox? What if you did something that meant you didn't ever exist? Heck, it could be a really dangerous superpower as you could wipe out all sorts of people, including yourself. You could, though, get to change history for the greater good. You could also get the winning lottery numbers for next week. Naughty naughty, but also rather useful. (I think I have watched too many episodes of 'Timeless'?) As for traveling in to the future? That could be a painful step to far for me, to be honest. Better not to know.
Healing? Yes and yes. A fabulous superpower to have. You could fix everyone. You could age without any aches and pains. I can't see any thing wrong with this one. Still it could go to your head if you ended up with the choice of who to heal and who not to? Imagine that power!
X-ray vision, way hey! You could see in to rooms before you walked in to them. You could see through walls. You could see in to a bank vault. Ooops. You could see your husband on the toilet through the bathroom wall! Why on earth did I think of that? Ermmmm you might be able to see people with no clothes on. Hmmm it could be difficult to strike the right balance here? Maybe not a good power for someone to have?
Super speed? Yes useful if you are running for the bus or late for a meeting. Also useful if you want to save on petrol as you could speedily get anywhere by foot. Otherwise, I haven't a clue how this would be useful. Nah, not as useful as it sounds.
There are so many more superpowers you could have. Speaking different languages? Very useful as, in spite of what many people think, not everyone speaks English! Breathing under water? Who needs a cross channel ferry when you could walk it? Ermmm, maybe you need superhuman endurance for that too? Time manipulation? Stopping time so you could carry on enjoying something. Making time go faster when you are at work. Yes, I can see the appeal for that. Talking to animals? Ah, now that would be fabulous, especially if you were a vet. Mind you I talk to my cats, and I am sure they understand me back. They meow at me, and I ask them what they want. I think they may have trained me rather well actually?
How would you chose what superpower to have? Maybe it's a good job we mere mortals don't have any super abilities. How could you trust someone with those powers to use them wisely, and not be tempted to use them for personal selfish reasons? It could all go so terribly wrong. Still it's nice to dream. That lottery win would be so useful.
So if I could chose then I would like the healing power. I think that is the most useful, and the one I could use for the greater good. In spite of what I wrote I would also like time travel. I'm rather nosey! Neil wants invisibility, and to be able to see in to the future. Not to go in to the future, just to see he said. I do wonder why he wants invisibility in view of what I've written about how people would use it? I suspect he has a naughty streak in him actually! Tut.
Superpower -
A popular culture term for an imaginary superhuman ability.
